The Future of Smartphones: What’s Next?

Smartphones have come a long way in the past decade. But the unprecedented popularity of this technology begs a powerful question: What's next?

It’s estimated that in 2021, the number of smartphone users worldwide hit a staggering 3.8 billion people. That’s nearly half of the world’s population!

The appeal behind smartphones is easy to see. There are countless benefits that smartphones provide you with, including instant access to the internet, the ability to run businesses from anywhere in the world, connectivity to everyone you know and love, endless amounts of entertainment, etc.

Smartphones have come a long way in the past decade. But the unprecedented popularity of this technology begs a powerful question: What’s next?

Whether you specialize in entrepreneurship, startups, or app development, read on to learn the answer.

Legion of Interfaces

It’s possible that phone technology could grow to where people completely dispense with the idea of touchscreens. And when you take a closer look, this is already happening.

Take the app Alexa for example. This unit of AI technology is slowly eliminating the need for physical devices through voice commands and motion sensors.

It’s a real possibility that future technology can employ these same features in your smartphone.

One-Stop-Shop For Personal Needs

Initially, smartphones offered communication through the means of text and calls. However, things quickly changed as future tech improved.

Soon, emails, pictures, entertainment, apps, and a whole host of other features were added.

Your smartphone has become a part of your identity, and going into the future, this trend is expected to accelerate.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility for the phone of the future to have fitness detection, fear examination, and emotion sensor apps, as well as an AI-piloted communications program that can detect who you are.

It will literally become a one-stop shop for everything about you.

Extended Screens

Stretchable screens may be a feature in the future of smartphone technology. Foldable phones–that retain their quality for picture and video–could be a reality as soon as 2029.

This could be a good alternative if you desire larger screens but don’t like carrying a bulky laptop or tablet.

People want bigger screens, but for convenience purposes, the screens still need to be small enough to fit into pockets.

And because of this, it’s plausible that folding phones or phones with elongated screens could be making their rounds in the future.

Merged SIM Feature

The integration of the SIM card is another possibility for phone technology. In 2019, the feature garnered some notoriety in the iPhone 11, Motorola Razr, and the Samsung Galaxy Fold, among others.

And it looks as though the eSIM–as it is referred to–will be added to every new smartphone once chipmakers decide to start building it into the device.

5G Authorized

5G is a huge topic when it comes to discussions of future smartphones. With the world growing increasingly dependent on the internet, people are going to want faster and more efficient connectivity.

A slow internet connection is just not an option in the world today, let alone the future.

New smartphone technology will most likely fully buttress the 5G model.

This will allow for quicker internets speed, as well as syncing between your phone and other fixtures in your life (house, car, work office, etc), to ensure a more efficient day-to-day experience.

Smartphones of the Future

With technology evolving at such a rapid pace, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how smartphones will change with the times. But the future certainly looks both bright and exciting.
